Top Tips for Working in a Care Home at Christmas:

MarketingUncategorized

Many people look forward to a break over the Festive period. However, for those within the caring profession, working during the holidays is an accepted part of their role. Healthcare professionals like Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and Support Workers sacrifice holidays to ensure that patients or residents are suitably cared for. Christmas is a time for family, festivities and fun, but when you are in the caring profession, it can be a challenging time for many reasons. We have put together a few tips for working over the festive season:

  1. Plan ahead with loved ones

Discuss your rota with loved ones in advance and allow them to come up with ideas and plans that fit around your work schedule. Everyone being on the same page can help alleviate stress, reduce conflict and make the festive period run smoother.

2. Christmas shopping hacks

Fitting in some Christmas shopping around a busy schedule and long shifts can be difficult for Healthcare professionals. Create a co-ordinated plan of gift ideas and people to buy for before you visit the shops. Gift cards and experience presents are always fun and unique presents, which can often be found online.

3. Create workplace traditions

Creating workplace traditions can be a great way to bring a festive atmosphere within Care Homes or Nursing Homes. Christmas decorations, Secret Santa gift exchanges with colleagues, festive treats and even a staff potluck meal for everyone to enjoy on breaks can help bring some festive cheer.

4. Make the day special for patients

If workplace permitted, decorating the area and wearing something festive could help bring some joy to residents. If possible, try to spend some extra time with those residents who may not receive any visitors during the holidays.

We would like to thank all of our healthcare professionals who are working over the festive season this year, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
